Have you taken your pet to visit your local Pet Vaccination Clinic? Do you know the reasons why vaccinations are a good idea for your pet?

Typical vaccinations and testing for dogs include DHPP, bordetella, rabies and heartworm test. For cats, they include FVRCP and feline distemper, rabies, and FeLV (feline leukemia). Vaccinations are a safe choice for many reasons.

Protect your own health.

There are diseases that can be easily transmitted to humans from pets (like rabies and leptospirosis). Your pet is always at the risk of getting exposed to an animal with rabies -- vaccinating your pet is a step to protect his health and your own health.

Boarding or doggy daycare.

Without vaccinations, you are restricted in several ways. You won't be able to your pet  off at daycare and boarding will be a no-go. Vaccines will protect dogs against kennel cough (which can lead to pneumonia).

Saving money.

Vaccinations, though sometimes costly, save in the long run. Vet treatment bills are much more expensive, so head to the pet vaccination clinic sooner rather than later.

Risk of distemper.

Due to the progressive nature of the disease, dogs that contract distemper are often euthanized. It's a smart idea to prevent distemper with a vaccine.

Risk of hepatitis.

Another way that vaccines save the day, is protection from hepatitis (a liver disease).

Risk of parvovirus.

Parvovirus is a serious infection that produces bloody diarrhea and vomiting. The severity of it leads to the point of shock or death. Furthermore, it is an extremely contagious infection.

Lyme disease.

Ticks attach themselves to pets and suck blood. This sometimes results in Lyme disease, which causes pain, low blood platelet count and joint disease. Not fun!
