It's time for that fun summer holiday we all love—it's almost Independence Day! At least, all of us humans like barbecues, warm weather, and fireworks, but for your dog, this could be the worst day of the year.
Since your dog won't understand what's going on during the fireworks and celebration, the loud noises are sure to give him or her a startle. Some dogs can become so stressed and irrational during this holiday that they run away from home in an attempt to escape. It's crucial to take precautions that will keep your dog as safe and calm as possible this Fourth of July. Here are some tips.
1. Stay Home
If you can, stay home with your dog on the Fourth. If you're unable to stay home this holiday, consider hiring a dog sitter. Having a comforting human presence will not only help calm your dog but also keep her from running away or hurting herself.
2. Keep Them Inside
Keep your dog inside your house if possible during the Fourth of July holiday, especially if the fireworks are continuing after you've gone to bed. A familiar crate, toys, and a bed can help your dog feel more secure in your home.
