1. Human Food
Many people don't realize that the foods they eat can be harmful to their dogs. Foods that seem perfectly harmless can cause your dog serious health problems. Keep your dog away from:
- Chocolate
- Onions
- Xylitol, an artificial sweetener
- Macadamia nuts
- Grapes and raisins
- Avocados
- Alcohol
- Bread dough

2. Household Plants
There are several kinds of house plants that are hazardous to your pet's health. They may look and smell nice, but keep them out of Fido's reach. The most common dangerous plants are rhododendrons, azaleas, lilies, and mistletoe.
3. De-icing Salt
This one may seem rather obvious; who would want to eat de-icing salt? But with this product's ubiquity during the winter months, it's worth noting that it's not only poisonous when consumed, but irritating for your pet's paws. Consider a good snow shovel or pet-friendly de-icing salt.
4. Medications
Can your fuzzy friend get into your purse where you keep your pain killers? How about the cabinet that houses your vitamins? Almost any type of human pill can be fatal to dogs, so be sure these common hazards are far out of your pet's reach.
