Tongue out, rapid breathing, short breaths—it's the season for panting. Your dog is probably already feeling the heat just like you are, and with that furry coat, they don't have the option of putting on a swimsuit and hitting the pool. Here are a few of our favorite tips for keeping your pup cool this summer.

  1. Make a splash: You've heard of kiddie pools, how about a doggie pool? Provide a shallow pool in your back yard that your dog can jump in and cool off.
  2. Keep water handy: Just like you carry around a water bottle, you should provide multiple water dishes for your dog during the summer months. 3. Sleep cool: Provide an elevated bed such as a trampoline bed to keep your dog cool at night. You can also provide a fan to cool your dog off.
  4. Don't make this crucial mistake: Never leave your dog in the car, even for five minutes, and even with the windows rolled down. The heat inside cars can increase to a fatal temperature within minutes during the hot summer months.
  5. Make a popsicle: Provide your dog with a frozen treat. There are many pupsicle recipes available online that include ingredients like peanut butter, chicken stock, and dog food.
